Virgin said it had made the decision "reluctantly" |
Virgin Atlantic has become the latest airline to impose a fuel surcharge on ticket prices because of the continuing rise in oil prices. UK-bought return tickets on the airline will go up by 5, Virgin said, a decision it had made "reluctantly".
It follows similar moves by British Airways, KLM and Qantas. Virgin said higher fuel costs left it "no choice".
It added that the surcharges would now be kept under review and will be adjusted "when appropriate".
Virgin Atlantic said it had been hit harder by rising fuel costs than other carriers.
"As a long-haul carrier our fuel costs represent a higher share of our costs," the airline said.
