A programme of store refits has helped to maintain sales growth at supermarket group Somerfield, the firm has said. Somerfield said like-for-like sales across the group grew 1.1% in the year to 24 April.
The firm's Somerfield stores saw sales up 2%, while Kwik Save sales grew 0.1% overall after the chain returned to growth in the second half of the year.
Somerfield said its renewal programme for both chains would continue in order for the retailer to remain competitive.
The trading update comes a day after Somerfield announced it is to drop the Kwik Save brand in Scotland - a move which will lead to the loss of about 400 jobs.
The firm said 29 of the Kwik Save stores will be rebranded as Somerfield outlets, while a further 22 shops will be closed.
