Pubs group toasts festive boost
Drinkers at a Wetherspoon pub
No price cuts were needed to attract drinkers
Thirsty drinkers have boosted sales over the Christmas and New Year period at pubs group JD Wetherspoon.

The company said like-for-like sales grew by 4.9% in the 25 weeks to 18 January, up from 4.2% growth in the previous quarter.

Wetherspoon added that it had managed to boost sales without having to resort to cutting prices.

The group said that total sales growth had slowed due to fewer pub openings and a handful of disposals.

Total sales grew by 11% over the festive period, down slightly from the 12% growth recorded in the previous quarter.

Wetherspoon said last year that more red tape and taxation would force it to reduce its growth rate.
