Shopping online is becoming increasingly popular |
Online shopping and other forms of e-commerce grew by 39% in the UK in 2002, compared to the previous year. The Office for National Statistics said the 23.3bn spent over the net in 2002 made up 1.2% of all sales that year.
Most sales were in the wholesale, retail, catering, travel and telecommunications sectors.
The news comes as analysts predict e-spending over the Christmas holiday period could be worth 3.3bn, boosted by the spread of broadband services.
