Music and book retailer HMV has named former Emap chief Sir Robin Miller as its next non-executive chairman. Sir Robin, 62, will take over from Eric Nicoli who is due to step down from his post in February next year.
Mr Nicoli became chairman of HMV in March 2001 and oversaw the company's flotation on the London Stock Exchange the following year.
Sir Robin retired from the board of Emap in January after serving as chief executive and non-executive chairman.
He was instrumental in Emap's transformation into an international media company from a predominantly local newspaper business.
HMV chief executive Alan Giles said Sir Robin had a "proven track record in the media and consumer industries".
"He brings a great deal of experience and wisdom to the group," Mr Giles said.
In September, HMV reported a flat summer sales performance with like-for-like business up 0.3% in the 21 weeks to September 20.
