The Pensions Regulator
The Pensions Regulator superseded the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority (Opra) on 6 April 2005. Opra was created by the Pensions Act 1995, legislation introduced after the Maxwell pensions scandal.
The new Pensions Regulator was created by the Pensions Act 2004. It has wider powers than Opra and says it will take a more proactive and risk-based approach to regulation.
