BBC News Online has asked two debt experts to help sort your finances, as part of a week-long series on personal debt. Credit card bills are hitting doormats across the country, as Christmas excess comes home to roost.

Britons are currently borrowing �1.09 for every �1 saved, says research by the Independent Financial Adviser Promotion.

Borrowing at low interest rates, high employment and affordable prices in the shops have sent many of us on a shopping spree.
