| Monday, 25 February, 2002, 13:59 GMT Aeroflot joins forces with Volvo Russia's flag carrier Aeroflot has signed an agreement with Volvo's engine division to renovate the engines of the company's four DC 10-40F three-engine cargo jetliners. The contract worth 600m kronor ($57m, 40m) is the largest overhaul contract signed by Sweden's Volvo Aero since 1998. It includes spare engine support, engine condition monitoring and on-wing support. The contract can be doubled if Aeroflot decides to buy more planes of the type. The Russian-built Il-76 jetliner is currently the backbone of Aeroflot's cargo fleet, but the number of Western-built planes might increase in the future as the company is forced to adopt EU regulations on airplane noise. Aeroflot is the world's 56th-largest carrier by revenue and dominates in Russia and East European markets. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Business stories now: Links to more Business stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
