The company, owned by Britain's Diageo, the world's biggest drinks group, is in discussion to sell the title to Gullane Entertainment.
Gullane Entertainment's joint venture company, Sooty Limited, owns the worldwide copyright to the characters Sooty, Sweep, Soo and Cousin Scampi.
And the lovable glove puppets themselves made the Book of Records after notching up 49 consecutive years as the longest-running children's TV show in the world.

The Book of Records, now in its 48th edition, is printed in 20 different languages and sold in 37 countries around the world.
Originally designed for pub landlords, the book first appeared in 1955.
It has since sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling copyright book in the world.
