The Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, fears that Kyrgyzstan is on the brink of civil war after the popular uprising which ousted the country's president.
Kyrgyz leader, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who has fled to the south of the country, says he will resign only if his security and that of his family can be guaranteed.
