China has said it will impose sanctions on US companies that sell weapons to Taiwan.

The announcement is in response to US plans to approve more than $6.4bn (£4bn) in arms sales to Taiwan's government.

China regards Taiwan as a breakaway province, and has summoned the US ambassador in Beijing to complain about the sale.
