Troops backed by tanks and aircraft have entered the southern Philippine province of Maguindanao, after Saturday's declaration of martial law.
They are taking up position in the province following a 23 November election-related massacre, in which 57 people were killed.
Security forces have set up checkpoints around the region, amid fears that the local Ampatuan clan, suspected of being behind the massacre, is fomenting rebellion.
Supporters of local politicians are among those being thoroughly searched.
The crackdown has led to the discovery of arms caches near the regional capital Shariff Aguak - here about 40 firearms were discovered.
Hundreds of crates of ammunition were found at the same dump.
