Rescue efforts are continuing in southern Taiwan, with troops and emergency workers trying to reach villages flattened by mudslides after rains brought by Typhoon Morakot.
Military helicopters are being used to carry hundreds of villagers left stranded in remote mountainous areas to safety.
The rescue operation is centred on Qishan, where many relatives of those missing are waiting anxiously to be reunited with their families.
Officials say some 200 people have been flown out of the village of Hsiaolin, in Taiwan's Kaohsiung county. But fears remain for many others still thought to be missing.
The torrential rains brought by Typhoon Morakot over the weekend caused the worst flooding seen in Taiwan in 50 years.
Access to the worst-affected areas remains difficult, with many villages cut off after roads and bridges were washed away by flood waters.
Taiwan's defence ministry said more than 17,000 troops were involved in the rescue operation across the island.
As well as rescuing survivors of the floods and mudslides, soldiers are bringing in food and fresh water to people who have lost their homes and farms.
