Typhoon sparks Philippines floods

Five people have been killed and thousands evacuated as a typhoon sweeps across the northern Philippines, officials say.

Typhoon Morakot prompted heavy rains in the provinces north of Manila, causing a dyke to collapse, severely flooding the area.

Many people were forced to take shelter in schools, with some spending the night on rooftops, awaiting rescue.
