New Zealander dies in Jakarta blast

A New Zealander has been confirmed as one of nine people killed in bomb blasts which hit two hotels in Jakarta.

At least 48 people were injured when one explosion hit the Ritz-Carlton, ripping off its facade, and another targeted the JW Marriott.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said it was a sad day for New Zealand and the Indonesian people.

He added that New Zealanders going to Indonesia for non-essential travel were advised to reconsider their plans.
