BBC website user Dan McDonald filmed this footage of demonstrators gathering at Bangkok's Victory Monument.
Mr McDonald, who is from America is currently teaching in Bangkok.
He told the BBC "The red-shirts have been threatening to do something like this for a long time, but do not have a lot of support in the city".
