Malaysian riot police fired more than 100 rounds of tear gas to disperse language protesters in Kuala Lumpur during a demonstration.

The protesters were demanding that the government reverse its policy of teaching science and maths in English and teach the subjects in the national Malay language instead.

Police attempted to break up the crowd of around 8,000 who wanted to march to the royal palace to hand over a memorandum.
