Australian fires destroy homes

Hundreds of firefighters have been tackling bushfires in the Gippsland region of Victoria.

Several houses have been destroyed and many people have fled their homes to escape the flames which have burned through more than 2,000 hectares of forest.

The southern Australian states of Victoria and South Australia have experienced extreme temperatures above 40 C over the past few days.
