Thai opposition leader wins election

Thailand's opposition leader, Abhisit Vejjajiva, has been confirmed as the country's new prime minister after winning a special vote in parliament.

It followed months of instability caused by anti-government demonstrations, which culminated in a week-long takeover of Bangkok's two airports.
