Royal couples meet on Japan tour

The dinner was a rare public engagement for Princess Masako

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have dined with Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito and his wife.

The couples dined in Tokyo and there was a rare appearance by Princess Masako who suffers from depression.

The princess began suffering depression around five years ago and carries out very few official engagements as part of the Japanese Imperial royal family.

The royal couple are in Japan to mark 150 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Crown Prince hosted the dinner at his temporary home within the grounds of the Akasaka Detached Palace, as his nearby residence is being renovated.

Charles and Camilla were greeted by their hosts as they arrived at the single story cream coloured building.

The Duchess wore a cobalt blue jacket and black silk shirt dress while the Princess was dressed in a pink jacket and matching skirt.

The two couples shook hands when they met and Princess Masako looked relaxed and smiled during the greeting.

The royal party then posed briefly for photos before Charles and Camilla were ushered inside by their hosts.

Earlier the Duchess carried out her own engagement while the Prince took the bullet train to Nagano to learn about a conservation project.

Camilla visited St Luke's hospital in Tokyo where she toured a children's ward and saw a pet therapy session.
