A Chinese man jailed for 11 years for murdering his wife - who then turned up alive - is seeking compensation from the state of 4.37m yuan ($530,000). She Xianglin, 39, was freed from prison in central Hubei province last month after his wife reappeared.
His lawyer told the official China Daily newspaper that the compensation would cover his client's mental damage and restrictions on his freedom.
The case has been closely watched, amid wider fears about China's legal system.
Mr She, a former security guard, was arrested in 1994 and sentenced in 1998 to 15 years in jail for the murder of his wife, after a body was found.
But his wife reappeared in March, and Mr She's plight became one of the most glaring of many recent examples of failures in China's legal system.
Mr She said he had been tortured by police into making a false confession.
