Sihanouk says sorry, still alive
Norodom Sihanouk
Norodom Sihanouk has played a key role in Cambodia's history
Cambodia's former king Norodom Sihanouk has posted an unusual announcement on his website, making clear that he is still very much alive.

He said that although "many people want me dead as soon as possible", he wanted to present his "humble apologies" for not yet obliging.

He was responding to reports that his health was deteriorating.

The former king abdicated in 2004 in favour of his son, King Norodom Sihamoni.

Sihanouk is currently living in China, reportedly receiving treatment for colon cancer and diabetes.

Sihanouk's message appears to have been prompted by a request to his official biographer, Julio Jeldres, from a journalist who wanted to put together an obituary.

"I present my humble apologies to everyone who wants my death," Sihanouk wrote.

"But, for the moment, God and the Buddha have not decided to send me into the afterlife."

The former king posts regular comments on his website, often giving his opinion on Cambodia's endless political power struggles.
