The Chinese authorities have told tourist agencies to stop safaris in search of the yeti said to roam the mountainous central regions.

A spokesman for the State Forestry Administration said they could harm the environment.

A nature reserve in Hubei province had planned to lure tourists with a sixty-thousand dollar reward for anyone capturing a yeti.

Several scientific expeditions have failed to find any trace of the creature.
