Backpacker police search river
State Emergency Services search the Burnett River bank area
Police have already searched the river banks
Police in Australia have launched another search for the missing possessions of murdered British backpacker Caroline Stuttle.

Divers have begun searching the bottom of the Burnett river in Bundaberg for Ms Stuttle's mobile phone, grey handbag and purse.

A man they had questioned over the 19-year-old's death has been jailed for seven months on unrelated drugs charges.

Ms Stuttle died last week after falling or being pushed from a bridge following what police believe was a violent robbery.

The teenager was still clutching the strap of her purse when her body was found close to the river that runs through the Queensland town.

Inspector Jeff Oliphant said police believed Ms Stuttle's attacker may have thrown her belongings into the river, and they could hold clues in the hunt for her killer.

Despite a high-profile investigation, police say they are still no nearer to establishing the identity of Ms Stuttle's killer.

DNA samples

Jeremy Richard Wilson, 21, pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday to six drug-related charges, and was jailed for seven months.

Mr Wilson was arrested after voluntarily attending a police station following calls from the public saying he resembled an e-fit of a man seen following Ms Stuttle just before her death.

Mr Wilson, who is unemployed, has been questioned about Ms Stuttle's death, but police have not charged him or described him as a suspect.

He has provided DNA samples as part of the murder investigation.

On Wednesday the parents of Ms Stuttle left a bouquet under the bridge from which she was thrown or fell to her death eight days ago.

In a note attached to the flowers, Alan and Marjorie Stuttle thanked the people of Bundaberg, Queensland, for their support "at this tragic time".

They also asked other parents not to stop their daughters travelling because of what happened to Caroline.

The Stuttles planned to fly their 19-year-old daughter's body back to Britain on Thursday, and a funeral is likely to take place early next week.
