| Friday, 8 February, 2002, 14:19 GMT Thai king sparks fashion craze ![]() People have been queuing to register to but the shirts The King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, has sparked an unlikely fashion craze in the capital, Bangkok. When he left hospital earlier this week after a minor operation, he was wearing a polo shirt carrying a picture of a stray dog he had adopted. The shirts have now gone on sale, and it seems people cannot get enough of them. The shirts feature a picture taken by the king of his dog, Thong Daeng, and her nine puppies, and store managers say they are selling out. Thong Daeng is an indigenous Thai dog. The monarchy is extremely popular in Thailand, partially through tradition and partly because the king has been seen as a beacon of stability through a series of political upheavals during his 55-year reign. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Asia-Pacific stories now: Links to more Asia-Pacific stories are at the foot of the page. | |||
