| Sunday, 3 February, 2002, 13:46 GMT Hong Kong slaughters 100,000 chickens The Hong Kong Government says health workers have completed a mass slaughter of more than 100,000 chickens to contain an outbreak of bird flu that could be fatal to humans. The cull - the third in five years - follows the death of about 10,000 infected chickens on a farm in the territory. The authorities believe they have contained the outbreak, and prevented it spreading to other farms. Samples have been taken to determine if the current bird flu virus is from the same strain that led to the deaths of six people in 1997.
