| Friday, 30 March, 2001, 09:59 GMT 10:59 UK In pictures: Pacific crossing A British rower has completed the world's first unassisted solo crossing of the Pacific Ocean. ![]() It took 54-year-old Jim Shekhdar more than nine months to complete his epic journey ![]() His home since leaving Peru in June has been a custom-made 10-metre boat ![]() Mr Shekhdar battled storms and high seas on this marathon journey across some of the world's most dangerous seas ![]() But his craft capsized as it negotiated the final stretch of surf ![]() He was met on this remote stretch of the Australian coastline by his wife and two daughters, who had flown from the UK ![]() Britain's record-breaking rower now plans to celebrate for a week and says he is now planning his next adventure ![]() But this marathon sea adventure is over |
