Barack Obama has signed his landmark healthcare bill into law in a ceremony at the White House.
He paid tribute to the "persistence and character" of the American people who championed the cause.
The US President, who was joined by vice president Joe Biden, received numerous standing ovations and cheers as he spoke about the bill, which he argued Americans had "fought for and marched for and hungered to see".
