Armed soldiers have apprehended suspected looters in Concepcion, Chile's second biggest city, still without electricity after an earthquake that killed at least 723 people.
In one part of the city women were asked to leave supermarkets where they had pleaded to be allowed to get supplies including nappies for babies.
Some succeeded, taking away bags full of provisions amid the authorities' attempts to maintain order.
