Hundreds of thousands of Haitians are awaiting the start of a global rescue effort in the wake of the country's devastating earthquake.
The Red Cross fears that up to 50,000 people may be dead. Thousands more have been injured and there are unknown numbers of people still trapped under piles of rubble.
More than 5,000 American troops and marines are being sent to Haiti to help with the relief effort.
Matthew Price reports from Port-au-Prince.
