Joel Parkinson crowned surfing champion in Hawaii

Australia's Joel Parkinson has won the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing contest at Sunset Beach in Hawaii.

Waves were between 10ft and 25ft during the final stages of the competition.

Parkinson clinched the win by riding a barrelling wave with around three minutes remaining in the heat.

He is currently ranked second in the world, and is in the running for the 2009 world championship title.

This footage shows Australian Nick Fanning and Brazil's Alejo Muniz in the quarter-finals, then Hawaii's Sunny Garcia and Australia's Joel Parkinson surfing in the finals.
