Will extra troops help?

American forces in Afghanistan say the US 30,000 extra troops being sent as reinforcements will be vital in the battle against the Taliban.

Over the last year, thousands of extra soldiers have already been sent into volatile areas like the province of Wardak which saw a troop 'surge' in May.

The BBC's Ian Pannell has been back to see whether the strategy there is working.
