Advance sales push Palin book top

Mrs Palin completed her autobiography weeks ahead of schedule

An autobiography by former US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has jumped to the top of bestseller lists on the strength of advance sales.

The book, Going Rogue, was due to come out next spring but this week publisher HarperCollins said its release had been brought forward to 17 November.

It is already the top seller on Barnes and Noble's website and Amazon.com.

The title refers to claims that while on the campaign trail with John McCain, Mrs Palin pursued her own agenda.

The autobiography, which was completed ahead of schedule in just four months, was produced in collaboration with author Lynn Vincent.

It is the first to be written by Mrs Palin, who abruptly resigned as governor of Alaska in July and has reportedly spent much of her time since working on the 432-page book.

There has been speculation the Republican mother-of-five is considering a 2012 presidential run.

Among the books she is outselling on the basis of advance orders are Senator Ted Kennedy's True Compass and the new novel by Dan Brown, The Lost Symbol.

HarperCollins says it has ordered an initial printing run of 1.5 million copies.

Mrs Palin shot to fame as Senator McCain's Republican running mate in the presidential election of November 2008, becoming a lightning rod for praise and criticism alike.

She is currently dogged by ethics probes and legal bills, but her supporters defend her as an outstanding leader with a strong Christian faith and unwavering support for her family.
