Obama defends US healthcare reform

President Barack Obama has gone on the offensive in support of his healthcare reform plan.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire, he tackled his critics, saying health insurance reform was an ''important and complicated issue'' that needed serious debate.

Concerns about his plans have sparked controversy across the US, but Mr Obama is hoping that Congress can pass the reform bill when politicians return to Washington in September.
