Obama set to visit Russia in July

US President Barack Obama
President Obama has pledged to improve Russian-US relations

US President Barack Obama will visit Russia in early July, says the Kremlin.

The visit, at the invitation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, will run from 6-8 July.

The two leaders had their first meeting in London earlier this year, in which they pledged to reopen negotiations about reducing nuclear warheads.

The US has spoken of "re-setting" its relations with Russia, with Mr Obama recently saying there was an "excellent opportunity" to improve ties.

The two countries aim to produce a new arms control treaty to replace the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (Start) that expires at the end of the year.

Other issues include Afghanistan and Pakistan, conflicts in Iraq and the Middle East, and the global economy, Mr Obama said.
