Chile is pushing for a full evacuation of the area surrounding Chaiten volcano, which spewed clouds of ash, gas and lava, following a partial collapse of its cone.

Footage shown on local TV showed a cloud of ash billowing into the sky over the town of Chaiten, which lies about six miles (10 km) from the crater.
