US car bail-out fails in Senate

Talks to secure a $14bn rescue package for the US car industry have died in the Senate after failing to get enough support in a procedural vote.

The bipartisan deal collapsed over Republican demands that the United Auto Workers union agree to swift wage cuts.

Senate majority leader Harry Reid gave his reaction after the vote.
