Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi managed to break a lectern in his eagerness to pay tribute to US president George W Bush.
Talking about a new US president, he said that Italy would cooperate with whoever it was, but "it will be difficult to find a man as idealistic and brave as our George".
He then knocked down the lectern while moving to embrace Bush and joked "this is what too much love can do".
