Barack Obama has accepted the Democratic Party's nomination to run for US president.

Here eight Democratic voters reflect on the party's convention and look forward to the general election.

He achieved some important campaign objectives - explaining his humble origins, sounding tough on national defence and making it clear that this election is about the economy.

He brought up more questions than he answered. He wants to cut taxes for 95% of families, spend billions on renewable energy and provide all Americans with health care. But how is he going to pay for this?

Hillary Clinton was the best of an impressive line-up of speakers - even outshining her husband.

Her speech, filled with humour and conviction, reminded me of why I still think she would have been the best presidential candidate.

Her impassioned endorsement of Obama fulfilled her obligation to her party and exonerated her of any blame if he is defeated in November.

This convention appears to be successfully uniting Democrats. However, it will not affect the way I vote.

What we are seeing is a four-day commercial for Barack Obama and the Democrats. Next week it will be the Republicans' turn to air their commercial.

Choosing a candidate based on these conventions is like buying a car based on watching TV commercials.

I need to hear a lot more specifics before I decide to vote for either of the major party candidates, minor party candidates, or none of the above."
