The candidates turn their attention to the next contests in Indiana and North Carolina due to be held on 6 May. Meanwhile, Republican presumptive nominee John McCain embarks on a tour of "places in America that aren't enjoying the prosperity many other parts of America enjoy".

NUMBER NEWS

With the Pennsylvania primary now out of the way, polling in the upcoming primary states of Indiana and North Carolina is likely to begin in earnest.

This week's polls confirmed that Barack Obama is dominant in North Carolina. Both SurveyUSA and Public Policy Polling (PPP) give him a double-digit lead over Hillary Clinton in the state, in the case of PPP by a massive 15 points.

The race in Indiana is much more open, if the polls are to be believed.

Two of this week's Indiana surveys give Mr Obama the lead in the state: an Indianapolis Star-WTHR poll gives him a three-point lead, while a Research 2000 poll gives him just a one-point winning margin.

The third poll, from ARG, gives Mrs Clinton the lead, with 50% to Mr Obama's 45%.

All three winning margins are within the polls' margins of error.
