Brazil has banned the sale of a controversial computer game in which players simulate killing police officers and stealing cars.

Brazil's justice ministry ordered all copies of the game, called Grand Theft Auto, to be removed from shops and says anyone caught selling it could face fines of up to nine-thousand dollars.

A ministry spokeswoman said the game was dangerous and could incite younger players to violence.

The game caused protests in Australia and Britain when it was released last year.
