Ten inmates have been killed in a prison riot in the Venezuelan state of Tachira, the authorities have said. The local National Guard commander, Luis Nieto, said the fighting was between rival groups of inmates at the jail, in the south-west of the country.
Other unconfirmed reports put the number of prisoners killed at 15.
Disturbances are relatively common in Venezuelan jails, which suffer from overcrowding and violence between rival prison gangs.
