Bryant says he will fight the allegations |
US basketball star Kobe Bryant has been charged with sexual assault. A former high school cheerleader has accused the 24-year-old player of assaulting her at a luxury mountain resort where she worked.
Kobe Bryant surrendered himself to Colorado police on 4 July, after he was accused of sexually assaulting the 19-year-old.
The Los Angeles Lakers star has released a statement asserting his innocence.
Basketball fans and commentators worldwide were shocked at the accusations against Bryant, who is feted both for his outstanding talent and his wholesome image as a young husband and father.

Colorado District Attorney Mark Hulbert said the felony charge had been filed after a review of the physical evidence and statements from the accuser.

The woman told police she was assaulted and held against her will in a room at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera on 30 June. Mr Hurlbert said the alleged victim wanted to maintain her privacy and did not want speak to the media.
If convicted, Bryant could face a jail sentence of between four years and life.
In his statement, the NBA star said he would fight the allegations "with all his strength".
"I did not assault the woman who is accusing me. I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both will forgive me," his statement read.
"Nothing that happened on 30 June was against the will of the woman who now falsely accuses me."
Bryant - who is free on $25,000 bail - is scheduled to appear in court on 6 August.
