Lightening kills Guatemala footballers

A number of people are still being treated for burns after a lightning strike during a football match in Guatemala on Saturday in which two players were killed.

The incident happened at a game between two teams in Guatemala's third division Deportivo Chiquimulilla and Pueblo Nuevo Vinas at the municipal stadium in Chiquimulilla.

The lightning struck a metal guard rail surrounding the field, knocking everyone on the pitch off their feet.

Two players Rosbin Yuman and Lester Marrioquin were killed instantly, and another 10 were taken to hospital, suffering from serious burns.

A fierce rainstorm had forced many of the spectators to leave the stadium before the lightning struck.
