 | | Tuesday, 17 July, 2001, 05:13 GMT 06:13 UK Resort to build 'nudist bridge'  An American nudist resort is due to start a $5m expansion scheme this week, including the construction of a footbridge allowing guests to cross a busy street au naturel. The bridge will be built with 1.5 m (five foot) high walls to shield nudists from any prospective peeping toms 5.4m (18 feet) below.
Palm Springs Planning Commission had rejected the bridge because members felt they might set a bad precedent by allowing the city's first elevated walkway. But the City Council overturned the decision, and unanimously approved the plan. Family hotel Owner Stephen Payne describes his resort as a "family hotel" where swimsuits are banned in the swimming pool and spa. The resort already includes 59 condos, 33 hotel rooms, tennis courts and a spa. "Anything goes," said Jacquii Gottlieb, whose husband's accountancy office adjoins the proposed expansion. She added: "We are totally for it ... it's hot here, anyway.
