Puerto Rico phones

News image

Reports from Puerto Rico say some six-thousand workers at the state telephone company have returned to their jobs, ending a six-week strike against plans to privatise it.

Under an agreement reached with management, no reprisals will be taken against anyone who joined the stoppage.

It was marked by violent protests and widespread sabotage of telephone lines.

The sale, to a United States company, is still set to go ahead.
