Police in the Turks and Caicos islands say six Haitians drowned and over thirty were still missing after their boat capsized on Monday.
A police spokesman said warning shots were fired at the overcrowded boat on Monday as it approached the British territory and it then overturned and sank.
He said an investigation was under way into allegations by some of the seventy survivors that police had fired directly at their vessel.
