The United Nations Children's Fund, Unicef, says Aids will make about one million children orphans in Mozambique by 2004.

Unicef said it was working with the Mozambican government to develop a strategic plan to help local communities look after the children affected.

There are already more than three-hundred-thousand orphans in Mozambique and according to the UN, more than 150,000 people have already died from Aids.

It is estimated that one million of the country's seventeen-million inhabitants are carrying the HIV virus, which leads to Aids.
