| Friday, 2 June, 2000, 12:54 GMT 13:54 UK Million Aids orphans in Mozambique by 2004 The United Nations Children's Fund, Unicef, says Aids will make about one million children orphans in Mozambique by 2004. Unicef said it was working with the Mozambican government to develop a strategic plan to help local communities look after the children affected. There are already more than three-hundred-thousand orphans in Mozambique and according to the UN, more than 150,000 people have already died from Aids. It is estimated that one million of the country's seventeen-million inhabitants are carrying the HIV virus, which leads to Aids. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
