In pictures: Morocco on the march
Morocco has seen rival demonstrations, for and against the government's proposals to ban polygamy, raise the legal age for marriage from 14 to 18 and reform divorce laws.

Half-a-million Islamists demonstrated against the proposals in Casablanca

The anti-reform protesters marched in separate male and female columns

Supporters of the changes only mustered 40,000 at their rally in Rabat

The Islamists denounced the reforms as Western-inspired

The organisers in Rabat said their rally was against violence and poverty suffered by Moroccan women

The Casablanca march reflects a sharp increase in fundamentalist activity, since King Mohammed VI came to power last year
