In pictures: Mozambique under water
A handful of helicopters battle to save hundreds of thousands of people as Mozambique struggles to cope with the aftermath of a flood that has devastated the country.

Relative safety: Above the water but desperate to be rescued from her tree trunk perch.

The village of Chinhanine is just one of many washed away by the floods.

Survivors cling to any piece of land still above the water looking out for the rescue helicopters.

Some aid is getting to the survivors - but more transport is needed for there to be a significant improvement to the supply routes.

Only five helicopters, all South African, are operating in the Mozambique flood area where an estimated 200,000 have been made homeless.

Almost safe: She has lost all her possessions but she is alive.

Others wade along what is normally a road to try to find a refuge.

In camps for the displaced people malaria is the new worry.
